Notes On News

NOTES ON NEWS

Define “Broadcast Journalism” in 1-3 sentences.
I think Broadcast Journalism is broadcasting a story to people. Broadcasting is to (to me) informing people through Tv, internet, or radio. Like, it's what news anchors do. They research a story, usually current events and tell the viewers about it on Tv, radio, or internet.



List and describe the six criteria of newsworthiness.

TITLE DESCRIPTION EXAMPLE
1. Unsualness: News is the different, the unusual, the out of the ordinary.

  • Example: Church roof collapses.
2. Significance: Important events, ones that affect many people, are news.
  • Example: Elections.

3. Timeliness: Old news isn't news, it's history.

  • Example: Black history month in Febuary.

4. Proximity: People want to know about nearby events.

  • Example: Store shuts down or something.

5. Prominence: When well-known people, places, or buildings are involved

  • Example: Lindsay Lohan gets arrested.

6. Human Interest: Ordinary people, ordinary animals, humorous or dramatic.

  • Example: Fireman saves cat.
